Charles Dickens' festive ghost story A Christmas Carol is a legend in its own lifetime, but this version from Matthew Warchus isn't just a masterpiece. Since its 2017 debut the show has raised almost £2 million globally to fight food poverty and deprivation and in 2024/25 alone, it raised a record-breaking £235,000 for Waterloo Foodbank. On stage at the Old Vic Theatre for the ninth year in a row, it always attracts enormous crowds. This award-winning production is adapted by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Netflix's Adolescence). As London's longest-running annual version of the 1843 Dickens story it sells out faster every year, breaking box office records every time. Five Tony Awards on Broadway, a US tour and delighted audiences in Melbourne, Australia complete the picture.
When he's visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley, Ebeneezer Scrooge is horrified to meet the terrifying spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. But between them the spooks manage to turn Scrooge from a nasty, mean, cruel miser into a generous chap full of festive fun. This time around Paul Hilton (The Inheritance, Lady Macbeth, Slow Horses) plays Scrooge, with set and costume design by Rob Howell. The composer and arranger is Christopher Nightingale, the lighting comes from Hugh Vanstone and the sound is by Simon Baker. A perfect family Christmas show!
