The plot follows his life through his parents, friends, self-doubts and aspirations, examining what it means to be a gay black playwright, to create a work of art about blackness and queerness, and asking who the writing is actually for. The result is funny, engaging and approachable, and it has won some seriously desirable awards.

A Strange Loop won Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical at the 75th Tony Awards, nominated for 11 Tonys. It won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. First produced off-Broadway in 2019, then staged in Washington, DC during 2021, it arrived on Broadway to play at the Lyceum Theatre in April 2022. The cast recording was nominated for the Grammy for Best Musical Theater album.

The book, music and lyrics are all by US playwright, composer, and lyricist, Michael R Jackson. In his words, "Though A Strange Loop is not autobiographical, it is my life's work, as such, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to share this raw, vulnerable, and personal story with the world and to have connected with so many enthusiastic, loving audiences". The Director is Stephen Bracket. Choreography and movement come from Raja Feather Kelly, and the remainder of the creative team will be announced nearer the time.
