An Inspector Calls description
About the Show
April 1912: the prosperous Birling family are relaxing after dinner, celebrating Sheila Birling's engagement to Gerald Croft, when the parlour maid Edna announces an unexpected visitor. Inspector Goole is investigating the death of a young woman, and as his inquiry unfolds, each member of the family is found to have a secret linking them to the tragedy.
An Inspector Calls was written by J.B. Priestley in 1944-45 and first played the West End in 1946. Stephen Daldry's revival opened at the National Theatre in 1992 and went on to the West End and Broadway, winning 19 major awards, including three Olivier Awards and four Tony Awards. It has been seen by more than 6 million theatregoers worldwide and comes to Alexandra Palace Theatre to open a new UK and Ireland tour. The performance runs for 1 hour 45 minutes with no interval.
