An Oak Tree description
About the Show
A father whose young daughter was killed in a car accident comes face to face with the man who was driving: a stage hypnotist. The two meet for the first time when the father is brought up from the audience as a volunteer in the hypnotist's act. An Oak Tree is a play about grief, suggestion and the power of the mind.
Its central device is unlike anything else on stage: at every performance a different guest artist joins the show having neither seen nor rehearsed it, and is guided live through spoken instructions and pages handed over on stage, so that no two performances are ever the same. Since its 2005 premiere the play has been staged in more than 19 countries with over 350 guest performers. The Financial Times said it "vividly celebrates the live, raw, communal experience of theatre".
Cast and Creatives
Written and performed by Tim Crouch, one of British theatre's most inventive artists, An Oak Tree returns for its 20th anniversary. It is produced by the Olivier Award-winning team behind Fleabag, Baby Reindeer and Weather Girl.
At each performance Tim Crouch is joined by a different guest artist, revealed to the audience on the night. Past participants have included Frances McDormand, Geoffrey Rush, Sharon D Clarke, Sophie Okonedo, Peter Dinklage and Laurie Anderson, with a new line-up for this run announced performance by performance.
Why You Should Watch It
A genuinely unrepeatable night at the theatre, newly created every time. Book now to see this 20th-anniversary staging.
