Anansi the Spider description
Sometimes, a character and the tales it tells are about much more than entertainment. They teach morals, keep cultures alive, and keep traditions going. Anasi the Spider is a beautiful show, especially for younger audiences, taking place at a legendary London venue, the Picnic Lawn at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Bring your own food and drink if you like, making it an extra-special event. A colourful, vibrant set and costumes add to the magic, along with the exciting stories and appealing characters. You know a production is a good one when it sells out, which is exactly what this one did in 2023, and again in 2025, at the Unicorn Theatre.
Your little ones will love the classic West African and Caribbean folk tales that unfold, starring the mischievous spider Anasi, the cleverest animal in the ancient world. He is skilled at weaving spellbinding stories, a famously intelligent trickster, cultural hero, and teacher whose fame spread from the Caribbean to the Americas, Jamaica, and Suriname. The Unicorn Theatre's Associate Director Robin Belfield is at the heart of it all, and the play is written by the award-winning Justin Audibert, who gave us Redlands by Charlotte Jones, The Caretaker by Harold Pinter, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Pinocchio, and The Canterville Ghost. A wonderful introduction to live theatre.
