Carmen description
Carmen is one of the world's best-loved and most enjoyed operas with its fiery plot, beautiful music, well-known melodies, and tragic ending. It's just one in twelve productions from English National Opera's latest season, all on stage at the London Coliseum. Bizet's Carmen tells the story of Don José, a soldier, and the strong-willed and passionate gypsy woman he falls for, Carmen. She seduces him, leaving him obsessed. He deserts his childhood sweetheart, neglects his job, and when Carmen's attention shifts to the bullfighter Escamillo, Don José kills her in a fit of violent jealousy.
A rousing production awaits you thanks to the ENO's legendary singers and orchestra, an experience that'll leave you exhilarated. Directed by Jamie Manton with Haruka Kuroda as intimacy and fight director. The opera is conducted by Clelia Cafiero and Olivia Clarke. Mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan plays the lead role with John Findon as Don José, Cory McGee as Escamillo, and Ava Dodd as Micaela.
