Darkling description

She's walking home. The skyline is changing. What used to be a skeleton is a vast metal structure; they're building a huge pesticide factory just outside her home town. This is Darkling, based on the horrific true story of the 1984 Bhopal disaster. The girl was born in a peaceful place with lakes and blue skies. She was nurtured and loved by her dad and her sister. But the giant Union Carbide chemical plant is going to bring disaster their way, exploding their lives and killing more than twenty thousand people.

The play comes from the current Associate Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, Titas Halder, whose back-catalogue of work is unusually varied and impressive. Known for his talent across theatre, film, and music, he has worked at the Kiln, Bush and National theatres, has been awarded a collection of accolades, and performs and records music as the artist Titas and the Fox. This epic, ferocious, brutal and damning story based on a real-life ecological disaster is directed by Matthew Xia (Tambo & Bones), an equally multi-talented theatre director, DJ, composer, broadcaster and cultural leader. Expect big drama: shocking, moving and memorable.
