About the Show
Willy Loman has sold for the same company for decades and can no longer manage the road. At home his wife Linda holds the household together while his sons Biff and Happy circle a version of themselves their father invented and they cannot live up to. Over two days the play moves between the present and Willy's memory, until the gap between the life he describes and the life he has closes.
Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman opened on Broadway in 1949 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. This production runs in the Lyttelton Theatre in repertory with A Whistle in the Dark, part of the National Theatre's return to true repertory playing.
Cast and Creatives
The play is by Arthur Miller. The director is Rebecca Frecknall, whose Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and who directed A Streetcar Named Desire and Summer and Smoke at the Almeida.
Paul Mescal, an Olivier Award winner for A Streetcar Named Desire and an Academy Award nominee for Aftersun, leads the repertory company with Ciarán Hinds, Peter Corboy, Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty, Ryan Donaldson, Aisling Loftus and Julian Moore-Cook. The cast also includes Monica Dolan and Tracy Letts, making his UK stage acting debut.
