Gentlemen Prefer Blondes description
About the Show
Showgirl Lorelei Lee and her best friend Dorothy Shaw sail from New York to Paris in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lorelei, engaged to the wealthy Gus Esmond, spends the crossing gathering admirers and diamonds, while Dorothy looks for someone she genuinely likes.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 1949 with Carol Channing as Lorelei and was filmed in 1953 with Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. This concert production at the London Palladium features large tap numbers, an orchestra of 30 musicians conducted by Alan Williams, and songs including Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend and Bye Bye Baby.
Cast and Creatives
The show has a book by Anita Loos and Joseph Fields, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Leo Robin. Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle directs and choreographs, with designs by Rebecca Brower and lighting by Zoe Spurr.
Tony Award nominee Megan Hilty, whose Broadway credits include Wicked, 9 to 5: The Musical and Death Becomes Her, plays Lorelei, a role she also played at New York City Center Encores! in 2012. Rachel Tucker, known for Wicked, Come From Away and Sunset Boulevard, plays Dorothy.
