Giselle - Royal Ballet and Opera description
This is the first time this magical production of the classic ballet has been seen outside Japan, making it an event to remember. Giselle comes fresh from the creative mind of Miyako Yoshida, the company's artistic director and the first Japanese ballerina to become a Principal dancer at the Royal Ballet. The story it tells is all about love, betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption, and it is danced to perfection. When young Giselle finds out her lover is already engaged to another woman and has also lied about his background, she dies of a broken heart. Her spirit finds itself in the spooky world of the Wilis, ghostly women hell bent on revenge. Unless Giselle saves him, they'll force aristocratic Albrecht to dance himself to death. Is her love strong enough to reach out beyond the grave?
The National Ballet of Japan is known and loved for creating world-class dance magic, with a troupe of 75 full-time dancers on board. Their repertoire is varied and vibrant, always a treat. There's a stunning set by award-winning British designer Dick Bird, staging by Alastair Marriott - who also provides additional choreography – and lighting by Rick Fisher. Plus choreography by Marius Petipa after Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, and music by Adolphe Adam. A beautiful sight, beautiful music and a backdrop to delight, no wonder it's tipped to sell like hot cakes.
