Global Majority description
Eight newly-announced productions across the Bush Theatre's two spaces await you, fresh from the venue's artistic director Taio Lawson, his first season in the role. One of them is Global Majority, a title inspired by the fact that African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Indigenous people make up the majority of the world's population. The play mixes genre storytelling, satire, political ideas, intimate emotions and morally complex characters to explore themes of power, loyalty, elitism, authoritarianism, identity, ambition, sacrifice and more. Hints of sinister hidden power structures give it a conspiracy thriller edge.
It's written by the award-winning Chris Fung, who is fast becoming one of Britain's most exciting emerging playwrights. His last play, The Society for New Cuisine, was a critically acclaimed drama blending dark comedy, horror and social commentary, so you can expect 'excellent' from this one too. Originally from Sydney, Australia, he's also the Artistic Director at Fun Guy Theatre, with a strong focus on ambitious, tech-rich productions. Perfect for theatre lovers who enjoy dark, complex and clever dramas, you'll leave the venue feeling inspired, informed, entertained... and deeply uneasy.
