Il Trittico - Royal Ballet and Opera description
About the Show
Puccini's Il Trittico brings together three one-act operas. Il tabarro is set on a barge on the Seine, where Giorgetta, grieving the loss of her baby, begins an affair as her husband Michele grows suspicious. In Suor Angelica, a young nun is visited by her aunt, the Princess, who brings news of the child Angelica was made to give up. Gianni Schicchi is a comedy in which a Florentine family asks the quick-witted Schicchi to alter a will, only for him to turn the scheme to his own advantage.
The three operas premiered together at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1918. The score includes the aria 'O mio babbino caro' as well as 'Senza mamma' from Suor Angelica. This production, first seen at Covent Garden in 2011, uses a separate design for each opera. It is sung in Italian with English surtitles and runs for approximately 3 hours 40 minutes, including two intervals.
