Ivanov description
Ivanov is one of Anton Chekhov's darkest and funniest classics, brought back to life in a bold production by director Simon Stone. Actor Chris Pine, who delighted millions in Star Trek and Wonder Woman, makes his London stage debut in this story about mid-life crises, desire, doubt, burnout, and self-sabotage, a bold new version Chekhov would appreciate. You'll meet poor Nikolai Ivanov, who is so worn out by life he can't remember what happiness feels like. He's in debt, his beautiful wife is ill, and he's bedevilled by a horrid sense of doom. Even the thought of a lavish party can't cheer him up. Can Ivanov rekindle his relish for life, save his marriage, and repair his reputation... or is he doomed to fail?
Director Simon Stone (The Lady from the Sea) won an Olivier Award, Drama Desk Award, and Obie Award for Yerma, along with a BAFTA nomination for The Dig. Chris Pine has appeared in a whopping twenty three movies as well as various popular TV series. And the creatives from The Lady from the Sea are reunited for this splendid story: set designer Lizzie Clachan, costume designer Mel Page, lighting designer Nick Schliepe and composition and sound expert Stefan Gregory. The show is cast by Jessica Ronane. Expect a keenly observed comic drama full of verve and imagination.
