Jane Eyre description

Don't miss the UK premiere of a very special production of Jane Eyre, a musical by the RSC and National Theatre director John Caird and Paul Gordon, the composer and lyricist who gave us Daddy Long Legs and Pride & Prejudice, based on the classic book by Charlotte Brontë. Caird is known and lived for adapting and co-directing the original West End production of Les Misérables as well as the Broadway version, and delighting audiences with his work on Spirited Away. Broadway's Megan McGinnis (Beauty and the Beast, Little Women, Beetlejuice) co-directs. The venue, Southwark Playhouse Elephant, is wonderfully intimate, perfect for this brilliant version of Jane Eyre's story.

Expect timeless romance as Charlotte Brontë's masterpiece unfolds, a compelling plot inspired by the author's own life and times. A tough, resilient female protagonist, Jane's life is rich in gothic drama and supernatural elements, a story told with wit, love and strength. Set in Jane's home, Thornfield Hall, we follow her through a traumatic childhood to her tricky relationship with Edward Rochester, involving all manner of complex secrets and betrayals, and onwards to a happy ending you'll love. The action is accompanied by beautiful music, bringing an extra dimension to this iconic story.
