About the Show
An inventor known as the Seeker has built a machine intended to bend time, space and dimension. When it works, a troupe of improbable characters steps out of it and his cabinet of curiosities comes to life around him.
The acts are staged as the contents of that cabinet: an aerial bicycle, a Russian cradle, contortionists folded into a giant mechanical hand, a rola bola, acro net, banquine, aerial straps and a chair-balancing act performed twice at once, upright and mirrored upside down on the ceiling. KURIOS - Cabinet of Curiosities premiered in Montreal in 2014 and has since played across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia; it made its European premiere at the Royal Albert Hall, where WhatsOnStage gave it four stars.
Cast and Creatives
The show is directed by Michel Laprise, with Chantal Tremblay as director of creation. The score is by Raphaël Beau and Bob and Bill, sets by Stéphane Roy, costumes by Philippe Guillotel and lighting by Martin Labrecque, with choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Yaman Okur.
It is performed by an international company of acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, clowns and musicians, with the score played live throughout by a band on stage. Cirque du Soleil recruits its performers from circus schools and elite gymnastics programmes worldwide.
