La Fille Mal Gardee description
Bring more sunshine into your life with the delightful La Fille mal gardee. You'll meet pretty Lise, the wealthy Widow Simone's only daughter. She's deeply in love with the young farmer Colas, but her ambitious mother wants her daughter to marry Alain, the son of a wealthy man. Lise decides to outwit her mother and marry the man she adores. Created by Royal Ballet’s Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton and inspired by the wonderful French ballet by Jean Dauberval, this beautiful production takes to the Royal Ballet and Opera's stage to weave a tale full of warm good humour and rich in inventive choreography, a ballet that the whole family will enjoy.
Premiering in Covent Garden during 1960, the ballet opened to rave reviews. Ashton blends cheerful, energetic good humour with an affectionate look at English village life based on the beloved landscapes of sleepy Suffolk. Designs by Osbert Lancaster bring the setting to vibrant life, along with gorgeous music from Ferdinand Hérold, arrangements and orchestration from John Lanchbery and a scenario by Jean Dauberval. The lighting designer is John B. Read. Prepare to be whisked away into a fantasy world where the sun always shines, full of glorious dancing and sweet humour.
