La traviata - English National Opera description
La traviata, the tragic opera by Giuseppe Verdi, is one of the world's best-loved operas, staged across the world numerous times and famed for its glorious music. The story follows beautiful Violetta Valéry, a high-class prostitute working in 1800s Paris. When she falls deeply in love with Alfredo Germont, a young nobleman, they feel an incredibly strong connection. But society's pressures and Violetta's illness threaten their relationship. When poor Alfredo realises his love is unrequited and Violetta dies in her apartment, he is left, devastated, to mourn her.
Exploring themes of love, cruel expectations and the tragic consequences of the choices we make in life, this story never grows old. It's Peter Konwitschny's Olivier Award-nominated production, a masterpiece in its own right, crafted to focus hard on the beating emotional heart of the plot, capturing the dramatic intensity of the characters' feelings perfectly. The stars of the show are Heidi Stober who plays Violetta, and Alison Langer who takes over the role for two dates. Egor Zhuravskii, winner of the Mozart Prize at Tenor Viñas 2025, plays Alfredo and David Stout sings Germont. The conductor is Kevin John Edusei. Expect sheer operatic brilliance!
