Landmarks: Unmissable Ashton - Royal Ballet and Opera description
About the Show
Landmarks: Unmissable Ashton is an evening of three ballets by Frederick Ashton, performed by The Royal Ballet. Les Rendezvous is a sequence of dances for a group of friends meeting in a park, Symphonic Variations is a plotless piece for six dancers, and Daphnis and Chloé tells the Greek tale of a goatherd and a shepherdess who are separated by pirates.
The three works were created across three decades: Les Rendezvous in 1933, as Ashton's first major ballet for the Vic-Wells company, Symphonic Variations in 1946 and Daphnis and Chloé in 1951. The Royal Opera Chorus joins the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House for Ravel's score. The programme lasts about 2 hours 45 minutes, including two intervals, and is part of Ashton Worldwide, the Frederick Ashton Foundation's international festival.
Cast and Creatives
Choreography is by Frederick Ashton (1904-88), Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, whose other works include La Fille mal gardée and Marguerite and Armand. Announced casting includes Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov, while the title roles in Daphnis and Chloé are shared by Marcelino Sambé and Francesca Hayward, Matthew Ball and Mayara Magri, Cesar Corrales and Sarah Lamb, and Patricio Revé and Akane Takada.
