Marie and Rosetta description
Produced in the West End by Jonathan Church Theatre Productions and Chichester Festival Theatre in association with Nica Burns, Marie & Rosetta transfers to the West End. This brilliant play-with-music is written by George Brant, who gave us Grounded and The Land of Oz, a joyful, critically acclaimed theatre experience full of beautiful gospel and blues hits. It tells the story of the real-life American singer and songwriter Rosetta Tharpe, known as the godmother of rock 'n' roll, and her star student Marie Knight. Together they changed the face of modern music, and their powerful influence rings down through the decades to this day.
Marie & Rosetta stars the multi-award-winning Beverley Knight (Memphis, The Drifters' Girl, Sylvia, Sister Act) as Rosetta, accompanied by hot rising star Ntombizodwa Ndlovu (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Space Between Us, Mixtape, Nothing, The Mountaintop) as Marie Knight. The show is directed by Monique Touko (The Boy at the Back of the Class, School Girls aka The African Mean Girls Play). We have Set Designer Lily Arnold, Costume Designer Jodie-Simone Howe, Movement Director Kloé Dean, Music Supervisor, Arranger and Orchestrator Liam Godwin, and Lighting Designer Matt Haskins on the case. Sound Designer Tony Gayle, Intimacy Director Bethan Clark, Voice and Dialect Coach Joel Trill, Casting Director Jacob Sparrow, Associate Director Jordi M. Carter, and Associate Lighting Designer Teresa Nagel complete the creative team. A magical musical journey awaits you.
