Mary Page Marlowe description
It takes 90 spellbinding minutes to tell us about Mary Page Marlowe's extraordinary life. The action takes us through a mosaic of eleven scenes spanning seventy years, revealing five very different Marys as the story unfolds. The lead role is played by two actors. Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma & Louise) plays Mary as an older woman, Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie, Matilda The Musical) plays the younger Mary in a non-linear plot exploring challenging family dynamics, painful break-ups, addiction and more.
This UK premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts' modern masterpiece has been thrilling audiences since 2016, when it premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Two years later, it debuted Off-Broadway, acclaimed from the beginning for innovative structuring and depth of emotion. As a deeply moving portrait of a woman’s inner life, it deserves an intimate setting, so it's good to know the theatre will present the play 360 degrees in-the-round. Writer Tracy Letts and Director Matthew Warchus – who is also a multi-award winning playwright and film maker - are joined by Rob Howell, who designed the Set and Costumes. Hugh Vanstone is the Lighting Designer and the Sound comes from Simon Baker, with Casting by Jim Carnahan CSA. An emotional ride full of meaning and texture, this play proves nobody's life is ordinary.
