Mary, Queen of Scots description
Like audiences before you, you'll be captivated by this major new production of Mary Queen of Scots, on stage at Sadler's Wells. Soutra Gilmour's brilliant contemporary set is complemented by fabulous costumes inspired by punk and haute couture. New music by the team that gave us Coppélia in 2022 adds more to the magic, played live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. It was a huge hit at the Edinburgh International Festival, inspiring standing ovations and winning Best International Festival Show at the List Awards. We predict it'll go down a storm in the capital, too.
Queen Elizabeth 1st of England is on her deathbed. She's haunted by memories, true and false, of her cousin Mary Queen of Scots, whom she loved but whose death warrant she signed in 1587 for being involved in the Babington Plot. Scottish Ballet's choreographer-in-residence Sophie Laplane and co-creator James Bonas (The Crucible) are at the heart of a story exploring the complex relationship between these two powerful women. Laplane's marvellous choreography, a blend of traditional and modern, reshapes this true story of rivalry, politics and destiny. Big drama, staged to perfection.
