Million Dollar Quartet description
About the Show
On 4 December 1956, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley found themselves at Sun Records in Memphis at the same time and played together. Million Dollar Quartet dramatises that session, as producer Sam Phillips holds the four in the room, egos collide, promises are broken and each man considers where his career goes next.
The score is performed live by the cast and draws on the songs of the period, including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Walk the Line and Hound Dog. The musical opened on Broadway in 2010 with three Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and won Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Levi Kreis as Jerry Lee Lewis. This staging originated at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester, where the Daily Mail wrote: "The high voltage encore to Jonathan O'Boyle's production gets the audience to their feet."
Cast and Creatives
The production is directed by Jonathan O'Boyle, with choreography by Joanna Goodwin, set and costume design by Libby Watson, lighting design by Alex Musgrave, sound design by Nick Lodge and musical supervision by Lee Freeman. The book is by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux.
Darren Day, a familiar face on stage and screen, reprises the role of Sam Phillips, the producer who first recorded all four musicians. Full casting for the London season is to be announced.
