Mojo description
About the Show
Jez Butterworth's Mojo takes place at the Atlantic Club in 1950s Soho. Rock 'n' roll is in the air, and the club's latest discovery, the young singer Silver Johnny, is drawing the crowds. When the owner is murdered, the people he leaves behind are drawn into a vicious battle for control of the club, and the glamour of the scene starts to crack.
First staged at the Royal Court in 1995, Mojo was Butterworth's debut play and won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. It also earned him the George Devine Award and the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright. The Telegraph called it "wickedly funny, incredibly dark". The play combines black comedy and violence with fast, sharp dialogue. This new staging is a Park Theatre and Lidless Theatre production.
Cast and Creatives
Jez Butterworth has since written Jerusalem, The Ferryman and The Hills of California. The production is directed by Max Harrison, Artistic Director of Lidless Theatre, whose earlier Park Theatre productions include Miss Julie and Leaves of Glass. He has also directed The Pitchfork Disney and Tender Napalm at the King's Head Theatre.
Design is by Kit Hinchcliffe, co-Artistic Director of Lidless Theatre, whose work spans theatre, dance and installation. The producer for Lidless Theatre is Zoe Weldon, Producer and Programmer at the King's Head Theatre.
