Myra's Story description
About Myra’s Story
Based on his former success, Maire: A Woman of Derry, this delightful play by the Irish playwright Brian Foster is set on the streets of Dublin. Expect a devastating and heartfelt piece of theatre following a middle-aged alcoholic homeless woman who decides, one day, to share her life story with extraordinary humility, heart, and humour. Billed as a "must-see production", it’s a feast of laughter, tears, and everything in between. An emotional roller-coaster awaits you. Once seen, it’s impossible to forget
Myra’s Story proved a huge hit in Ireland and scored equally high at the Edinburgh Fringe. Now it’s due at the West End’s Trafalgar Theatre, on stage on selected days between 19th September and 18th October 2023.
The great quality cheap tickets for Myra’s Story we sell introduce audiences to a very likeable and vulnerable character who was created as a composite of several street drinkers the playwright knew back in his home town of Derry in Northern Ireland. Brian Foster is well known for delightful and thought-provoking plays The Trophy Collector, The Most Haunted House in Derry, The Butterfly of Killybegs, A Miracle in Ballymore, Colm Cille and Lillibulerro.
Herself a Dubliner, 2021 saw the actor Fíonna Hewitt-Twamley, who plays Myra to brilliant perfection, recognised for her work on the play with a coveted Edinburgh Fringe Festival award, the Bobby Award: Broadway Baby’s top prize for Outstanding Performance. It was well deserved, inspired by a string of 21 sold-out performances at the festival’s Palais de Varietie Spiegeltent venue.
Expect an acting masterclass, an unforgettable and vivid emotional journey encompassing laughter and tears, joy, and despair. Hewitt-Twamley’s talent and versatility is beautifully revealed in this play, described as “a 90-minute tour de force” as she plays all the roles from her character’s stories, revealing them to spellbinding effect.
