Nero description

About the Show

Long before his name became synonymous with tyranny, Nero was an artist, a performer and a reluctant heir thrust into unimaginable power. As ambition collides with family, love and political intrigue, a young ruler's desperate search for identity spirals into madness, forging one of history's most infamous legends.

Nero is a new musical from the writing team behind Spring Awakening, the 2007 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. It opens at Southwark Playhouse Elephant on 2 November 2026.

Cast and Creatives

The musical has book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, the Tony Award-winning collaborators on Spring Awakening. It is directed by Lindsay Posner, with choreography by James Cousins, set and costume design by Georgia Lowe, lighting by Robbie Butler and sound by Tony Gayle.

Andrew Barth Feldman plays the title role. He made his Broadway debut in the title role of Dear Evan Hansen and appeared opposite Jennifer Lawrence in the film No Hard Feelings. Further casting is to be announced.

Why You Should Watch It

Combining a fresh score with one of history's most notorious figures, Nero offers a new musical portrait of power and identity from an acclaimed writing team. Book tickets now for its run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
