Partenope description
ENO is putting on a total of twelve epic shows at the London Coliseum, a 2025-6 season to inspire and delight. You'll love this second revival of Christopher Alden’s critically acclaimed version of Handel’s Partenope, a three hundred year old story that's just as fresh and relevant today.
Handel's first comic opera, dating back to 1730, is brought to life in a compelling story of rivalry, romance, and gender confusion. The city of Naples is the setting where lovely Queen Partenope is in high demand, desired by all sorts of suitors. Ambitious Emilio, charming Arsace and the mysterious Eurimene become embroiled in an emotional storm of epic proportions where nothing is quite what it seems. This time around Alden's beautiful arias and magical melodies are conducted by Christian Curnyn. Queen Partenope is played by Nardus Williams, with Hugh Cutting as Arsace, Ru Charlesworth as Emilio, and Jake Ingbar as Armindo. Prepare for passion, fun and mischief!
