Private Jones description

Private Jones has already made a splash, a new musical with a difference. In development since 2021, it premiered at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia. It has won four Helen Hayes Awards, including Outstanding New Musical, and the latest version has been tweaked to perfection in collaboration with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In a story loosely based on a real person, Gomer Jones loses his hearing, loses his self-confidence, and is left searching for a sense of belonging. When he joins a bunch of fellow outsiders and goes off to fight in the First World War, he finally finds what he's been looking for... and it isn't quite what he expected.

A powerful, memorable score. Innovative sound design with accessibility front-of-mind. The effective representation of deaf people, and emotive storytelling. They all contribute to something extra-special, a musical that integrates accessibility into the very heart of its narrative. Perfect for hearing, hearing-impaired and deaf musical theatre lovers, it has already won a string of awards over in the USA, where it held a highly successful world premiere, along with plenty of critical acclaim for its creator, the writer and composer Marshall Pailet. And this is the show's European premiere. Definitely one for your diary!
