Rebecca description

About Rebecca

Rebecca is an enormously popular musical production of a classic story, brought to life by the Austrian musical producer VBW, Vereinigte Bühnen Wien. It's based on Daphne Du Maurier's 1938 novel Rebecca, and sticks closely to the original plot.

The show has already captivated over 2 million theatre-lovers worldwide in 10 languages. Now we're delighted to see the English language premiere in a new production at London's Charing Cross Theatre.

Rebecca the musical comes from Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, two highly successful German-language musical theatre composers. The world premiere raised the rafters at the VBW-theatre Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria in September 2006, where it sold out for three seasons.

It'll be in London during autumn 2023, a treat for anyone who loves musicals and enjoys an exceptionally creepy thriller.

What's the story of Rebecca?

Rebecca offers 22 original songs. This is a truly gripping thriller packed with mystery and intrigue.

When the wealthy Maxim De Winter brings his sweet young new wife home to his Cornish home, Manderley, the evil Mrs Danvers does an excellent job of gaslighting her. The manipulative housekeeper, who was obsessed with Rebecca, De Winter's ex-wife who drowned tragically, resents the new wife's intrusion and quickly begins to make her believe she's not worthy of her husband, or the house.

The world-class novel was made into a classic movie back in 1940, starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, Judith Anderson, George Sanders and Gladys Cooper. It was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning two for Best Picture and Best Cinematography.

This unforgettable story was also filmed by Netflix in a popular piece starring Lily James, Armie Hammer, Kristin Scott Thomas and Keeley Hawes.

It's a story that never grows old, and the mystery never dies. Come and experience it for yourself in this wonderful new musical production.
