Relics description
Dark family comedy is the name of the game in the latest stage drama from Ben Ockrent (Spider, Swansong, Winds of Change, Edmund the Magnificent, Youngers). This is Relics, a new play directed by the award-winning Michael Longhurst (Constellations, Next To Normal). When four siblings meet to clear out their deceased mum's house and divide up her possessions, things quickly become strange. A family secret buried for a long time unfolds, forcing them to face uncomfortable truths that lead them to question everything they thought they knew, tearing their world apart. Will they ultimately lose everything, including their dignity? Old rivalries, fragile loyalties, and shocking revelations deliver themes of memory, morality, and legacy, all sharply observed.
Ben Ockrent is a prolific, award-winning writer and director of films, TV shows, online content, radio and theatre. His first short film, Dust, with Alan Rickman and Jodie Whittaker, was nominated for a BAFTA and he has directed some of the UK's best-loved actors. His latest short film, Edmund the Magnificent, was financed by Creative England and BFI, starring David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and the beloved national treasure Sir Ian McKellen. The producer is Lyric Hammersmith in association with Francesca Moody Productions and Chalk Hills. Relics' irresistible mix of wit, unflinching honesty and family dynamics will shock you and make you laugh, a winning combination for an excellent night out.
