Billed as a darkly elegant version, the drama comes from Oliver Mears and the music is conducted by acclaimed Verdi specialist Mark Elder. Rigoletto adores his daughter Gilda, but his master, a serial womaniser who is used to getting everything he wants, decides he wants Gilda for himself, another woman to add to a long string of conquests. When Rigoletto finally takes his jesting too far in an attempt to save the daughter he adores, he's cursed.
