About the Show
Damascus, 2011. Protests fill the streets and Samira stands at the heart of a movement demanding change, charismatic, radical and very funny, sharing an unfiltered account of events as they happen. Thousands of miles away a group of London academics follow her, captivated by a revolution unfolding in real time. Then she disappears.
Samira is a world premiere and one of eight new works in the National Theatre's 2027 programme. It runs in the Dorfman Theatre, the smallest of the National Theatre's three auditoriums and the home of most of its new writing.
Cast and Creatives
The play is by Carmen Nasr, whose work includes the stage version of Under the Shadow. The director is Emily Burns, who directed Dear Octopus at the National Theatre.
May Calamawy, known on screen for Moon Knight and Ramy, leads the company alongside Joshua McGuire, seen in Anatomy of a Scandal, and Sirine Saba, whose National Theatre work includes Phaedra.
