Shamilton! The Improvised Hip-Hop Musical description
About the Show
Shamilton! The Improvised Hip-Hop Musical begins with a name suggested by the audience: a historical figure or a celebrity. From that single prompt the company improvises a full hip-hop musical about them, inventing the plot, the rhymes, the songs and the choreography live.
Nothing is scripted, so every performance is a different show with a different story and a different score. It comes from Baby Wants Candy, the improv troupe that has been making unscripted musicals for more than two decades, and plays London after sold-out runs at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe and 2026 San Francisco Sketchfest. British Theatre Guide gave it five stars and called it "a must-see institution... Fantastic", while The Guardian gave four stars and called it "Brilliant".
Cast and Creatives
The show has no writer or director in the usual sense, as the company creates the text and the staging in performance. The music is by Pete Gill, with Adrien Pellerin as musical director; Al Samuels produces for Baby Wants Candy and JBPM handles production management.
The London company is Anna Bortnick, Chris Grace, Allen Lucas, Lily Ludwig, Will Naameh, Adam Payne, Adrien Pellerin and Daniel Tepper, who share out every role on the night.
Why You Should Watch It
This is a musical that exists only once: made up in front of you and gone by the end of the night. The run opens on 8 September 2026 at The Other Palace - book tickets to see the version only your audience will get.
