Spitfire Girls description

About the Show

Set on New Year's Eve in 1959, Spitfire Girls begins as two women separated by the Second World War meet again in a pub called The Spitfire while rain lashes the windows. Their conversation takes the audience back to the war years, when women took on the job of flying aircraft and proved what they were capable of in the air.

The play draws on the true stories of the women of the Air Transport Auxiliary, who ferried military aircraft around Britain during the war. It was developed through the National Theatre Studio's Generate programme and toured the UK in 2025 and 2026 before making its London debut at Park Theatre. Critics on tour described it as "an almost flawless production" (Northern Arts Review) and "a beautiful, well-crafted story of bravery" (StageSide UK). The play combines comedy with moments of loss and hope.

Set design is by Linbury Prize winner Sarah Beaton, with lighting by Peter Small and sound and music by Eamonn O Dwyer.

Katherine Senior plays Bett and Hannah Morrison plays Dotty. Morrison's credits include Plaza Suite at the Savoy Theatre and the television series Industry. They are joined by Kirsty Cox, Paul Brown (Groan Ups, Vaudeville Theatre) and Daniel Copeland (The Larkins, After Life).
