Stage Kiss description

This play has wowed audiences and critics since it was first staged at Chicago's Goodman Theatre in 2011. It delighted everyone all over again in New York City in 2014. Now, twelve years later, Stage Kiss is finally making its way over the Atlantic to the West End, a treat for everyone who already adores playwright Sarah Ruhl's amazing work, newcomers to her style, and the critics. Blending humour with high drama, the story delivers a romcon like no other. Ruhl is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist who has given us The Clean House, Dead Man's Cell Phone, and In the Next Room/The Vibrator Play. Blanche McIntyre (Letters from Max, The Assembled Parties, Apex Predator, The Invention of Love) directs in her second collaboration with the playwright, and Casting Direction comes from Juliet Horsley.

In a fascinating story of parallels, the plot takes us to 1930s New York, where Ada is dying. Her true love is racing to her bedside from Europe, desperate for one last kiss. Reunited, they can't help believing in the magic of love. Can their feelings overcome the ultimate obstacle? But wait – this is actually New haven, the year is 2011, the couple is actually rehearsing a forgotten melodrama, The Last Kiss, and the actors themselves have a romantic history of their own. Will they fall into a passionate affair? We're thrilled to see this dazzling drama in the capital!
