Swan Lake - Royal Ballet and Opera description
About the Show
Princess Odette has been turned into a swan by day by the sorcerer Von Rothbart, and only a pledge of eternal love can break the curse. When Prince Siegfried meets her by the lake, he vows to free her, but Von Rothbart conspires to deceive him and keep the lovers apart.
Swan Lake was Tchaikovsky's first ballet score. Poorly received at its premiere in 1877, it became established through the 1895 production by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, and it has been in The Royal Ballet's repertory since 1934. Liam Scarlett's production, created in 2018, stays faithful to the Petipa-Ivanov text. The performance lasts about three hours, including two intervals.
Cast and Creatives
Choreography is by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with additional choreography by Liam Scarlett and Frederick Ashton. The production is by Liam Scarlett, with designs by John Macfarlane and lighting by David Finn. Koen Kessels and Martin Georgiev conduct.
