Tartuffe (Remixed) description

How do you fancy a major new adaptation of Molière's comedy-farce, Tartuffe? Tartuffe (Remixed) is on stage at the Marylebone Theatre with Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Jerusalem, Bridge of Spies) playing the starring role, in town for a limited season. It's a brand new modern version of the 1664 French classic, written and directed by Darren Raymond who won the 2025 Sam Wanamaker Award, and is also Artistic Director of the brilliant drama charity Intermission Youth / Intermission Ensemble. Perfect if you adore wickedly sharp comedy, Moliere's play has been relocated to the UK and stars an African-Caribbean family.

Christmas is coming and we meet the lively Afolabi–Williamses, whose members meet up for their annual four week festive holiday. This year Marianne's marriage to Valere is a hot topic, and things become even more tense when Tartuffe turns up. Is he a good Christian, as he claims, or is he just manipulating everyone? Sir Rylance plays Tartuffe, alongside actors from Intermission Ensemble, the graduate arm of Intermission Youth. Add Darren Raymond's famously fantastic language and splendid sense of humour, and the fact that this is the first time Mark Rylance has acted at the Marylebone since 2024's smash hit Venus and Adonis, and you can understand why anticipation is mounting in the West End.
