About the Show
The Adeyemis have money, standing and a great deal they would rather not discuss. The Adeyemis - A Family Saga tracks them across a turbulent stretch of Nigeria's recent history, as national upheaval reaches into a household already at odds with itself and the family's private arrangements start to look like political ones.
The play is a world premiere and one of eight new works in the National Theatre's 2027 programme. It closes the year in the Dorfman Theatre, the smallest and most flexible of the three auditoriums, and carries two notable debuts.
Cast and Creatives
The play is by Oladipo Agboluaje, the British-Nigerian playwright whose The Estate, Iya-Ile (The First Wife) and New Nigerians have been staged in London. The director is Lucian Msamati, making his National Theatre directing debut; as an actor he played Salieri in Amadeus at the National Theatre and was the first Black actor to play Iago for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Uzo Aduba, a three-time Emmy winner for Orange Is the New Black and Mrs. America, also makes her National Theatre debut. Further casting has not yet been announced.
