The Bridge description

The Bush Theatre's 2026-27 season includes eight productions across two stages. The Bridge appears on the Holloway stage, follow-up to an award-winning Fringe success by solo performer and writer Alaa Shehada, and co-written with Sam Beale who also directs. Part of the first season programmed by Taio Lawson as the venue's Artistic Director, this contemporary Palestinian story is told by someone with direct lived experience.

A powerful, fast-paced mix of comedy, stand-up, storytelling, and physical theatre, the play uses one simple family journey to tell a story rich in bigger questions about identity, displacement, bureaucracy, and belonging. Both funny and moving, it connects audiences with a deeply personal reality while reflecting the broader historical and political forces behind it. For Palestinians, the King Hussein Bridge is associated with long waits, worrying inspections and frightening uncertainty, but they can't visit relatives abroad without crossing it. This is their life, brought to the stage in a unique way by the writer and performer of The Horse of Jenin. Perfect when you like your theatre rich in meaning as well as comedy.
