The Children description
Described as funny, tense, deeply compelling and bold, The Children premiered in 2016. Ten years later, in a completely different post-covid, climate crisis world, it is still one of the nation's most powerful, thought-provoking plays. Expect a compelling West End production starring one of the UK's best-loved actors, comedians, writers, playwrights, singers and journalists, the brilliant Olivier-nominated Dame Meera Syal (A Tupperware of Ashes, Noises Off). A blend of sharp wit, deep emotion and edgy tension keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The story goes like this. In the wake of a horrific environmental catastrophe, Hazel and Robin do whatever it takes to survive. They're both retired nuclear scientists, living alone on the edge of a radiation exclusion zone in a world that has changed forever. Hazel keeps up with her yoga and Robin brews terrible booze, both determined to keep up a routine. Then their old colleague Rose turns up with old memories, potent secrets, and a proposal that will change everything. Lucy Kirkwood's critically acclaimed drama offers powerful themes of what it's like to grow older, our morality, and the messes left by older generations for younger people to cope with.
