The Daughter of Time description
In 1951, shortly before her death, author Josephine Tey completed an extraordinary crime novel, The Daughter of Time, a detective story like no other. It reveals one police officer's investigation into the crimes King Richard the Third of England was accused of, including the murder of the two Princes in the Tower. In 1990, it was awarded the number one spot in the Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time list by the British Crime Writers' Association, proof that this is a story not to be messed with, a plot that transcends generations. Expect a compelling mix of history and myth, truth and fantasy, disaster, comedy, and romance.
Set in 1950, we meet Inspector Alan Grant. He's stuck in a hospital, bored stiff, when he hatches a plan of action: to investigate the much-maligned King's crimes and see if the accusations were true or a dastardly Tudor plot. A couple of dodgy Shakespearean actors, two unusually opinionated nurses, a cynical Deputy Inspector and a young American historian later, his excellent detective skills see him approaching a conclusion. This play follows on from two radio adaptations, one in 1952 and the second thirty years later in 1982. It is perfect for everyone who loves an unusual take on the nature of history, a highly entertaining ride.
