The Jonathan Larson Project description
Thirty years after Jonathan Larson's death on the eve of Rent's first New York performance, The Jonathan Larson Project makes its highly anticipated European premiere at Southwark Playhouse Borough. Conceived by Jennifer Ashley Tepper and drawing on previously unheard material from Larson's personal archives, the show charts the inner world of a young New York artist whose ambition to transform the world through song was cut short far too soon. These are not polished commercial compositions — they are raw, searching, and often electrifying works that reveal a side of Larson's genius rarely seen, making this a genuinely unmissable moment for musical theatre enthusiasts.
Director John Simpkins, who helmed the acclaimed Off-Broadway production at the Orpheum Theatre, brings the show to London with an ensemble of outstanding West End talent. Natalie Kassanga, known for her leading roles in Moulin Rouge the Musical, Crazy For You, and the original West End cast of Dear Evan Hansen, heads a cast that includes Max Harwood of Everybody's Talking About Jamie fame, Marcus Collins, Michael Mather, and Imelda Warren-Green, with professional debutants Georgie Butler and Edward Flynn Haddon completing the company. If you have ever been moved by Rent, or simply love theatre that dares to ask big questions, The Jonathan Larson Project is the production you simply cannot afford to miss this summer.
