The Magic Flute description

The Magic Flute by Mozart comes with added enchantment thanks to director David McVicar, a glittering affair designed to delight. Your conductors for this long-time favourite, the final opera the composer wrote before his untimely death at 35, are the respected French conductor Marie Jacquot on her Covent Garden debut, and the award winning conductor Finnegan Downie Dear. You'll adore the Queen of the Night's astonishing arias, the high-energy Overture, Papageno's catchy tunes and Pamina and Taminos' gorgeous melodies. The story is sung in German with captions and translations in English, displayed above the stage and around the auditorium on screens, adding to the enjoyment.

Two casts feature a host of opera stars, including Julia Bullock and Lucy Crowe as Pamina, Amitai Pati and Mingjie Lei as Tamino, Huw Montague Rendall as Papageno, Kathryn Lewek and Annie Fassea as the Queen of the Night, with Soloman Howard and Timo Riihonen as Sarastro. The story? Prince Tamino loves the Queen of the Night's daughter Pamina, but she has been kidnapped by the enchanter Sarastro. The bird-catcher Papageno adores his girlfriend Papagena. Accompanied by Papageno, Tamino sets off to rescue his love. Guided by a magic flute, the men run across monsters, villains, and a strange brotherhood. Will they finally be united with the women they love?
