The Pelicot Trial description

About the Show

The Pelicot Trial is a work of documentary theatre about the case of Gisèle Pelicot, in which 51 men were prosecuted for the repeated rape of a woman while she was unconscious, in the small town of Mazan in the south of France. Drawn from courtroom testimony, written accounts, police files, psychiatric reports and social commentary, it examines how ordinary men from every background came to stand trial, and how Pelicot's decision to make the hearings public turned her into a symbol of the fight against sexual violence.

The production premiered at the Vienna Festival (Wiener Festwochen) | Free Republic of Vienna in June 2025 and has been staged in Avignon, New York, Lisbon, Milan and Bergen, each time with a local company. Its UK premiere is a single four-hour performance in the Chamber at London County Hall on Monday 30 November 2026, which will also be streamed live and free on the Young Vic's YouTube channel.
