About the Show
On Christmas Eve a young boy builds a snowman, which comes to life during the night. The Snowman takes the boy by the hand and flies with him over a snowy landscape, where they meet Father Christmas and a herd of reindeer and join a gathering of snow people beneath the Northern Lights.
This is a brand-new production of The Snowman from Sadler's Wells and Birmingham Repertory Theatre, replacing the staging that played at the Peacock Theatre every Christmas from 1997. Told without words, it works from Raymond Briggs's 1978 picture book and uses dance, puppetry, flying and stage illusions, set to Howard Blake's score, including Walking in the Air. The show runs for 1 hour 30 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. It is suitable for all ages, and children aged 2 and over need a ticket.
Cast and Creatives
The production is directed and choreographed by Will Tuckett, who won an Olivier Award for The Wind in the Willows and whose credits include Into the Woods at the Royal Opera House and The Nutcracker for the National Ballet of Japan. Music and libretto are by Howard Blake, after the book by Raymond Briggs. Production design is by Anna Fleischle (Punch, 2:22 A Ghost Story, Hangmen), and the Snowman puppet is by Tahra Zafar, who shared the Olivier Award for Best Costume Design for Paddington The Musical.
Four young performers share the role of The Boy: Felix Anderson, Jake Durant, Tristan Marwa and Tate Masuku. They are joined by an ensemble of 12 dancers.
