It's always a joy when a classic West End musical comes back to town, especially when it's perfect for the whole family. Welcome to the latest production of the beloved show Annie, set in New York City during the USA's Great Depression and Dust Bowl era, when crops were flattened by storms, the economy tanked, there were mass migrations, and thousands starved to death. Brave young orphan Annie, who has a miserable life in Miss Hannigan's horrible orphanage, dreams of a better tomorrow. When Annie meets the grumpy billionaire Oliver Warbucks and they make friends, there's hope on the horizon. Will the awful Miss Hannigan manage to ruin things for the little girl?
Beautiful music by Charles Strouse, sing-along lyrics from Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan make this story super special. It's no surprise Annie has been produced on stage so often, revived frequently, and made into multiple movies and TV shows. A heart-warming adventure full of songs you'll recognise, the show tunes include It's the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don't Need Anything But You and, of course, the legendary Tomorrow. This time around it is directed by Nikolai Foster, with set and costume design by Colin Richmond, choreography by Nick Winston, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Richard Brooker. A family favourite to light up your life!
