About Everybody's Talking About Jamie
Everybody's Talking About Jamie is a fabulous teen drag queen musical with music by Dan Gillespie Sells and a book and lyrics by Tom MacRae. The story is inspired by Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, the powerful and touching 2011 TV documentary from Jenny Popplewell. Billed as a 'fresh new British musical', the plot is nothing if not courageous, frank and bold. This is a play about being different, and everything it means, and there's even a fabulous concept album to support the show, starring music from McCrea, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Betty Boo, Dan Gillespie Sells and Josie Walker.
What's the story of Everybody's Talking About Jamie?
Jamie's school psychometric testing reveals the 16 year old as the perfect forklift operator. But Jamie is not interested in any of that nonsense. He is on a very personal journey and he wants to become a top-earning drag-queen. This wonderful, warm and very unusual musical tracks Jamie's life and times as he beats prejudice, overcomes the inevitable bullies and achieves his dream. It's quite something for a lad from County Durham, and this musical is occasionally completely and totally outrageous, a lively, bright and fun coming-of-age story that is funny, joyful and extremely touching.
