Girl From the North Country description
Girl From the North Country is written and directed by Conor McPherson (The Weir, The Brightening Air), with music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, featuring a company of 23 brilliant actors and musicians. The world premiere in 2017 proved a smash hit, now it's back on stage at the Old Vic for a strictly limited run. The year is 1934, the setting is the USA, and life is precarious as the people of Duluth struggle to survive the Great Depression. But there's joy amongst the suffering, the dust and the hunger. When a straggling group of travellers find each other they experience fierce love, tragic loss, the sheer joy of being alive and everything in between, in a local guest house full of music, hope and soul.
Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson cleverly weaves Bob Dylan's iconic songbook into a smash hit of a show that has won multiple Tony awards as well as being an Olivier winner. Having already wowed audiences at the Old Vic, the Noel Coward Theatre, on Broadway in 2020 and in numerous international productions, including in Canada and Australia, the US, UK and Ireland, it enjoyed a West End revival in 2019. The creative team members include Set and Costume by Rae Smith, Orchestrator, Arranger and Musical Supervisor Simon Hale, with additional arrangements by Conor McPherson and Simon Hale, Lighting by Mark Henderson, Sound by Simon Baker, Movement by Lucy Hind, Musical Director Alan Berry, Casting by Jessica Ronane CDG, and Associate Direction by Corey McMahon.
