John Proctor Is the Villain description
2024 saw Kimberly Belflower's John Proctor is the Villain produced by Boston's Huntington Theatre Company, where it was nominated for six Elliot Norton Awards, winning Outstanding Play and Large and Outstanding Ensemble. It also scored a huge hit on Broadway, attracting an impressive 7 Tony nominations including Best Play. Now makes its European premiere for 2026 at The Royal Court Theatre, part of the venue's 70th anniversary celebrations and Directed by Tony Award-winner Danya Taymor, who also directed the Broadway production. Expect brilliant and you won't be disappointed.
The story follows five young women obsessed with pop music, fuelled by optimism and full of absolute fury. They are about to reveal everything about their small town's dark secrets in a story examining girlhood, power, and the questionable narratives people are brought up with. Originally commissioned by The Farm Theater, this is a brand new take on Arthur Miller's famous classic, The Crucible, and is perfectly timed, since The Crucible also made its UK debut at the Royal Court exactly 70 years ago. Pure class, not to be missed.
