Little Dancer: A New Musical description
About the Show
Little Dancer is a new musical inspired by the real girl behind Edgar Degas' famous sculpture of a young dancer. In Belle Époque Paris, fourteen-year-old Marie van Goethem is poor and determined to succeed in ballet. Degas makes her his model, and the musical follows the two as each pursues their art, whatever it costs them.
The show has played sold-out runs in Washington D.C. and Seattle, as well as a sold-out concert performance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2025. Its original West End production opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 15 February 2027, ahead of a planned world tour, and dance is central to the staging.
Cast and Creatives
The book and lyrics are by Lynn Ahrens and the music is by Stephen Flaherty, the Olivier and Tony Award-winning writers of Ragtime, Anastasia and Once on This Island. Susan Stroman, winner of five Tony Awards and two Olivier Awards, directs and choreographs; her credits include The Producers, Crazy for You, Contact and Oklahoma!. Designs are by Beowulf Boritt (set), William Ivey Long (costumes), Ken Billington (lighting) and Kai Harada (sound).
Tiler Peck makes her West End debut. A principal dancer with New York City Ballet, she was recently named the company's first Choreographic Associate, and she is an Emmy Award winner and Olivier Award nominee. Julian Ovenden (High Society, South Pacific, Downton Abbey) plays Edgar Degas, Laura Pitt-Pulford (Into the Woods, Standing at the Sky's Edge) plays Adult Marie and Josefina Gabrielle (Chicago, Les Misérables) plays Martine.
