Once On This Island description
Once on This Island lands in London to celebrate passion, sacrifice, and the magic of community, a one-night-only treat that's all set to be incredibly popular. No wonder, when it comes from the Tony and Olivier-winning dream team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Expect a sweeping, vibrant celebration full of bright, hot Caribbean colour, set to the irresistible rhythms of the heart and rich in the power of folklore. The plot? Ti Moune is fearless and optimistic. When she saves Daniel's life, she falls in love with him. But their cultures couldn't be more different. Will her bold promise to please the island gods bear fruit through her journey from love to loss, faith to hope?
The show's Director is Annabel Mutale-Reed. The Musical Director and Conductor is Jordan Li-Smith, with Choreographer Sarah Golding and Sound Designer Harry Greatorex. Casting Direction is from Ben Armstrong Casting, and the live music is played to perfection by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra.
Tony Award winner Alex Newell (Shucked, Chicago) reprises their role as Asaka, with Cedric Neal (Guys & Dolls, Hadestown) playing Agwe. WhatsOnStage Award winner Melanie La Barrie (&Juliet, Wicked) plays Papa Ge, and Dujonna Gift of Hamilton, Two Strangers, and Carry a Cake Across New York fame plays Ti Moune. We also have Wendy Mae Brown as Mama Euralie, Ako Mitchell as Tonton Julian, Jamael Westman as Danielle Beauxhomme, Casey Al-Shaqsy as Andrea Deveraux, Waylon Jacobs as Armand Beauxhomme. Beautiful, haunting, and inspiring.
